Favourite Devotee
But, the Sage wanted to hear
This from the Lord with his ears,
So he asked Him, 'Oh Lord, tell me,
Who is your most favourite devotee? '
'Why do you doubt, Oh! Narada,
It is you, my favourite in all
the fourteen worlds! ' were the words
The Maharshi wished to hear.
But the Lord named a farmer
who lived in a village on earth,
The learned sage could not
Just believe what he heard.
Not in all his tireless travails
Across the worlds, had he
Ever heard this name
Nor a word about this farmer!

Thank you Rose Marie. This story is dealt with in detail in our Hindu Puraanams. But we don't read. And we sideline them.
