There are days when
everything you see
inspires you to write about it,
and then there are days
you just sit and stare
and nothing sparks your imagination.
You look around for something,
anything
to give you a kick-start.
The more you look and stare,
the more your mind goes bare.
You want to shout help from someone,
but no one is around.
You wonder if all your inspiration
has packed its bags and gone.
You feel this restless yearning
that you want to write,
but everything you put down
seems so contrite.
The more you try
the less you get.
Everything you do to stimulate your imagination
doesn’t help a bit,
the more restless you get,
and the more miserable you feel.
They say that hope spring eternal,
I just hope
brings my imagination back.

Very clever and spot on David. It may even inspire me to verse again. Thank you, take care and have fun. David
I think all poets can relate with that David, but I did find something that works very well for me. I find if I have to write on the spot, you know a friend's auntie or parent died and they ask for an elegy. That's easy for me because I just talk to God about that and within a short time the words flow. I also find playing classical piano music turns out some of the most beautiful love poems. I'm very busy these days so when I have time, I must write and can't wait for the mood so that's when I put the music on and I'm on my way. Excellent poem David as usual. Melvina
David, I'm sure there is not a poet on this site that won't identify with this one. Sometimes it seems that the creative juices refuse to flow and the more you try, the worse it gets. Perhaps you need to 'do' something else - something you don't usually do - and see what happens. Focus on the doing and before you know it, the writing will take care of itself. love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
It's a mood thing, I guess... I only write when I feel the need to share with my sweet love out there... Andy 10
