A Modern Sonnet Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

A Modern Sonnet

How do I love you? Could I count the ways?
I love you in the grays and blurred lines between
The bold strokes of yellow and red and green
That try to tempt my eye with their gauche displays.
I love you in the pause before the music plays.
I love you when it ends and I feel you lean
Gently into me and ease me from the dream
Of harmony that must dissipate into disarray.
I love you when I'm cross and worn down by the day.
I love you when you're tired and grumpy and terse.
How do I love you? How could I ever convey
The perfect chaos we are in a few lines of verse?
