You peck and peck at it
Your tired beak in vain,
Come, O pair of sparrows,
Let me the truth of it explain.
Get not mad at your own image,
Let not your energies drain,
What you see is no rival,
Watch not in mirror in disdain.
No one's there but a shadow,
And a mirror is it so plain,
Come, my silly sparrow,
The truth is what I explain.
From branches of a tree
To my ceiling fan,
Here to there, there to hear,
Do stop your search in vain.
But yes, keep chirping chi chi,
I love it, what a sweet refrain!
Do settle down in your nest,
What use your energies to drain?
I've seen many in this world vain
In pursuit of the feign,
And getting no matching gain,
Chase the vain and incur pain.
Come back my dear, said her friend,
Let's go build nest before rain,
There, I'll make you understand,
I'll explain, my love afore lain.

I saw once two sparrows perching on my car's rear-view mirror. The male sparrow was on its frame and his girl friend (Yes, always girl friends lasting for the season)in front of the mirror pecking furiously and watching in intently. The poem's plain refrain is reflected in one rhyme repeating throughout.

Out of a simple image you made an extaordinary poem! Excellent!
Thanks dear poet, yes, there is a lot of poetry in day-to-day life.
Get not mad at your own image, Let not your energies drain, What you see is no rival, Watch not in mirror in disdain....absolutely wonderful sir......A brilliant poem....10++++
Thanks, a compliment coming from a poet like you does go a long way.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
I've seen many in this world vain In pursuit of the feign, And getting no matching gain, Chase the vain and incur pain...................... Besides the surface meaning, there is a deeper layer of meaning and I am drawn to it! How many of us like the sparrows fight with imaginary enemies and drain all our energies! A lovely poem, beautifully rhyming and containing profound thoughts. A sure 10
I'm glad you also saw the deeper layer as you call it.
