A Poem On The Maple Leaf Poem by Gayathri Seetharam

A Poem On The Maple Leaf

A poem on the Maple Leaf
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
Last evening, I went to the AGO's exhibit, Impressionism: Age of the Industry
And had a marvellous time
And I thought that the silver blend used by the masters
In painting the skies and the water
Is an aspect of the maple leaf, glinting, glistening and glossy
But Monet used gold to reflect the summer sky
And this reflects the "pictorial composition" that the maple leaf makes
I saw one of the master who had painted cotton
And it was a swirl of white oil paint
Executed with a circular movement of the wrist
And I thought that it brought out the tender spirit of the maple leaf
Which is soft, shapeable and serene
Then I observed one of Monet's paintings
In which he had painted the reflection of the landscape in the water
It was masterfully done with painstaking attention to detail
And I thought that the maple leaf thus reflects the musings of the mind
And materialisation of matter
And it brings out the beauty and utility of the maple leaf
Which is Canada's national flower.
