A Poet Strives
(a poem by Shakil Ahmed)
A poet strives to capture life
In between jumble of words
With its vivid colourd
With its fret and fevers
Pangs and agonies find expression
in beautiful and sonorous images
Dribbling tears of devastating nights
Become vibrant and alive
In the pages of manuscript
Melodies of nightingale are heard
Not from the thorny bushes
But from the words of poems
Philosophical thoughts unravel
In rhymes and refrains
Alluring us to think and think
About many unexplored and virgin land
Green grass of dense forest,
Cirrus cloud of vast sky
Musk-rose of lovely hill
Help us to soar in romantic world
Forgetting our doleful days of drab world
We move along the countless pages
Submerged in thoughts and images
Discovering many unknown pearls
Lying in the depth of fathomless ocean
Sometimes, the unruly current of words
Pull us into the realm of stars and galaxies
Where we fly like a hovering kite
Forgetting the shame of dark nights.

Tremendous work, Shakil. Indeed, the essence of life is like the pearl...hidden away. You remind me that the artist conveys the meaning of life not in or with words, but by and between them.
