The old grandpa of the house
sat in the courtyard of the house
that old house's open courtyard
with slant tiled roof on all four side
the roof above him had two rain drops
the left overs of the early morning rains
as the grandpa opened the newspaper to glance
one dropp fell on it and spread to read it too
it was a weather report
the paper gave a warning of heavy rains that day
the dropp on the paper gave the news to the other
as the grandpa called his naughty grand daughter
'see there is going to be heavy rains today.
don't go out and play and get wet today,
or you will get a poke if you catch a cold'
that angered the rain dropp on the roof
what a cruel old man it thought
how cruel of him to say that.'.if i give a cold
your dirty tank water will give her a flu' it said
though said in the girls voice it did not reach the deaf grandpa
the rain dropp on the roof
turned its head to look up into the clouds in the sky
to a rain dropp there it said
'don't come today and fall a prey'
for a rain drop
taking part in a child's play is eternity
landing on a tree and being of use is mere duty
falling on to the ground and drying away is fatality
After all this it left me wondering
if this is why our weather reports keep failing
This is so funny and playful piece, Sam. Thanks for making me smile: -)
Sam, this had me smiling all the way through...such a pleasure my friend to read....utterly enjoyable...thanks for the share
Its such a sweet poem! ! ! I don think anyone should stop children from playin in the rain!
Children and rain are natural friends. Unusual story pitting the will of Grandpa and the rain against one another.
A humorous theme put in words very elegantly. The interplay between nature and the imaginative heavenly characters that played role in this beautiful poem is just splendid....... Regards Naseer
