A Tribute To Jyoti Basu Poem by Sanjib Das

A Tribute To Jyoti Basu

Rating: 5.0

Jyoti Babu! Jyoti Babu! Jyoti Babu,
Through your political activities, you show your view.
You are my ideal leader,
I am your blind supporter.

Today you have left this vale of tears for ever,
In star-studded political sky, you remain as a star.
In your living time, you trod everywhere,
Even in India, you were the supreme political sheer.
you were not the king, but the king maker,
your political intelligence made you the hero of the hour.

You were the Chauvinist,
Truly, you were the real communist.
Your critic made you as a failure in every aspect,
You were the most successful man in retrospect.
Criticism makes a mam famous,
To the world, you are the genius.

Once the throne of Delhi came to your close,
Some of your party men oppose.
You did nothing only saying, 'Historical Blunder'
All and sundry your true admirer.

None can surpass your record as a ruler,
You are the Mother India's longest-term chief minister.
You are the Venus in guinness book with importance,
Other political leaders do nothing only glance.
Even the Chief of IMF came to meet you,
Throughout your life, you struck to your political view.

Tomorrow the World moves in its own way,
In 2011, Bengal may be in its sway,
Your successors will remember you as a leader of leaders,
Through my verse, I spread your activities to the future readers.

(I dedicate this poem to the veteran communist and longest term elective leader of the world-Jyoti Basu the Chief Minister of West Bengal, one of the states of India.)

oh, it's so hard to write anything about the poem which is written excelently and professionally without knowing to whom it is devoted. I really sorry that I don't know the leader, whom You loved so much. But all the same it is a nice poem

I must cogratulate you for publishing this tribute within an hour of Mr Basu's death on 17th Jan10, but I did not want to be the first one to comment! The poem pays your sincere respect & as a poem it is great! But I have mixed feelings about him! When I was a student in The Calcutta Boys' School, he was my hero & I recall those fiery speeches delivered under the Monument! He was the pioneer & initiated the 'land for the tiller movement' & established the party at the grass root level giving it a rock -like foundation! I do feel privileged for being an English Literature student like him from the same College (1966) ! But the second half of the regime was disappointing! His son greatly tranished his image too! Industries fled from our 'city of processions' & WB got plunged into the 'dark ages' of load -shedding, party politics and party bickering! The middle class unemployed were forced to leave seeking better prospects outside WB! Today's TOI has coverd these aspects also! Perhaps he would have been a beneficial PM for India! Your tribute is great! 10! - Raj
