A Wizard I Would Like To Be! Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

A Wizard I Would Like To Be!

Rating: 5.0

Yes, I would like to be a wizard
carry people across the rivers and bridges
and make them sleep under street lights and tall oak trees
that when they wake up they miss their bedrooms;

I would like to go by the windows
of little children fast asleep
and wail a little waking them up with tears
that they hold on to their daddys all night with fear.

I would like to go on the rooftops of houses
and rattle the false ceiling and rafters
so that it drops next to old ladies who then start praying
and being thankful to God that they survived the ordeal;

I would like to open the vaults of the misers
and carry their treasures and keep it in Church halls
so that when the priest wakes up he gets a bounty
while the miser ends up in a hospital, deranged with shock.

I would like to jump down the Eiffel tower
and shock the tourists as they see me flying down like a Batman
and climbing up again like a Spiderman
that they carry home photographs of me no one will believe in.

I would like to be seen on CNN News channel
having Starbucks coffee with Obama at the White House
and in the next five minutes, I would like to be seen on BBC
sharing Vodka and Beer with Putin just outside the Kremlin.

Yes, I would like to meet the Devil himself
and ask him if he needs any of my help
to hang those whom he has done undeserving favors
so that the evil in them vanquishes and in thin air they vanish;

And finally I would like to meet God by the Ocean
to tell Him of the greed and hunger men cannot resist
and how they all want to be like Bruce Almighty
that God Himself will be perplexed why He created men and magic.
