A Woman Incomplete Poem by Lora Colon

A Woman Incomplete

Rating: 5.0

A woman without her man
Is a woman incomplete,
As the flower without its nectar
Sends the bee into hasty retreat

Like a child that fears the dark,
She is searching for a light,
Though never coming near Love's flame,
She burns with passion day and night

Her heart's a dismal island,
Barren soil where nothing grows,
Pain and sorrow, her companions......
Loneliness..... the worst of foes

She's a candle that goes unlit,
A light not allowed to shine,
No one feels the warmth of her flame,
No one kneels at her darkened shrine

She lives her life as if it's real,
Pretense puts her mind at ease,
While she waits for death, she watches
Her life waste away by degrees

A life that is spent without love
Is a life that's lived in vain,
When memories flood the feeble heart,
The past will reflect only pain

Yet, a woman without her man
Knows somewhere there's a hidden gem,
But when Love's rose eludes her,
She sees only thorns on the stem

Love is the best tonic known to man. So sad and dispiriting when that love is gone. You've captured that sense of loss beautifully in this poem, Lora. A wonderful effort.

Some people may disagree with your poem, but for me it's very true. Before love, life was so incomplete. I don't know if I had remained alone I could have found a 'hidden gem', but I'm very glad I didn't have to find out.

Very touching and poignant, your feelings and emotions are livid with tender and raw reality, showing us life without another to return your love. Endearing and heartfelt poem. Yet, your line: 'a woman without her man is a woman incomplete'. doesn't quite balance in my mind. When a woman is complete, confident and sure of herself, there is no need of a man. But when one comes into your life filling you with his unconditional love, it adds a whole 'nother aspect to it, filling you with love beyond what you have found within yourself. Really loved this poem, thought provoking! Thank you for sharing it. RoseAnn

great rhyming; horrible story; told with a skillful hand/mind. I’m sure the same is true for lesbians etc. who don’t find a mate of their preference. now (some of) the U.S. Supreme Court has made it easier for same-‘sex’ couples to marry, though a bonding of two people ‘in love’ does not always need a marriage. thank goodness, God, or whatever for “pretense”: “She lives her life as if it's real, Pretense puts her mind at ease, While she waits for death, she watches Her life waste away by degrees” my offering: Mating Life A person imprisoned in a ‘love-less’ life …. may substitute plants for husband or wife. She may do her knitting and watch TV. He may hunt ducks and then sip his tea. For me, most of my life I’ve sought a mate, and found them, though not all were ‘first rate’. thanks, Lora. This shall go into my/our July showcase on my PH site. bri :)

Love is the lifeline for a human to live, Without the soul mate it's a vegetable life. Only sharing of love inspires us to live and move ahead True love between two gives the taste of Heaven on earth. Love is a serene light, guiding us to peace Being deserted from love but live is like living in an abyss.

So poignant but so true. As I feel, I would say..... Love is the lifeline for a human to live, Without the soul mate it's a vegetable life. Only sharing of love inspires us to live and move ahead True love between two gives the taste of Heaven on earth. Love is a serene light, guiding us to peace Being deserted from love but live is like living in an abyss.
