Accompanied By Apologies Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Accompanied By Apologies

If left sweet.
Most will reluctantly,
Abandon their delusions.
And their comfort zones.
Temporarily.
With a listening to others,
In between yawns.
Or maybe a nod or two.
That abruptly awakens them.
To witness them re-act as if,
They know all along...
What is going on.

And if left sweet.
To allow the dancing,
Of sugar plums...
Welcomed to fantasize,
In their heads permitted to stay.
They may offer an opinion to believe,
What was spoken to hear...
No one conscious heard it said.

If left sweet a truth to speak it,
And accompanied by apologies.
People asleep will awaken to excuse,
With forgiveness given.
Thought it to perceive,
Someone received...
An unexpected bitter taste.
Arriving too late,
After the amusement park had closed.
And expressing nothing more,
But disappointment to ignore.

Even if that nothing should mean,
Announcing the warning of a coming...
To everyone's door.
An immediate and sudden permanent change.
That promises to leave,
A sour and foul fragrance.
No one will mistake,
Their normalcy to have it...
Has quickly been replaced.

"What's the matter?
You woke up this morning,
And someone burnt your toast? "

-Add the coffee.
No cream or sugar.
And the dawning of the Sun,
Never appeared.
Or gave a clue it would soon come.-

"Calm down.
Sit with us and watch cartoons.
We've been laughing,
At this bunny rabbit that's bugged out."

-I dont know how to tell you this,
But...
You will find times,
Have dramatically changed.-

"Who says? "

-All I will say,
What's coming your way...
Has nothing to do with 'Simon'! -
