Symbolizing, in the eyes of others
hunger, famine, starvation ‘n poverty
slavery, apathy, cruelty and enmity of equity
side by side with discrimination ‘n oppression
Being an eye catcher, commands focusing
for charity, donation and meritorious acts
While being a mark of innocence and subjugation
inspires empathy, sympathy, sharing and love
Offers ground for ephemeral joy and vanity
exhibitionist's choice and propagandist's voice
Underneath, is a race to conquer, acquire and rule
what he's inherited from mother nature
An undeniable truth that lies above all these
its the same flesh, blood, bones and skin
same human feelings of love, joy, sorrow and pain
generically of white, yellow, brown or any other
Oh God! Isn't it a pity, then? You've committed
a slip, with the trial to create such and such
African Child, so very singular, for what ever
may need undoing, if it's within your desire
Being an eyes catcher! ! Thanks for sharing this poem on AFRICA with us.
A poignant piece of writing. Life is not fair. We all evolved out of Africa and yet many of us are apathetic at best and radically prejudiced at worst against our brothers there
Appreciate your brilliance in viewing things through justly and fairly. Thank you Kelly for encouraging us to write.
