Aguilia Poem by Juan Olivarez

Aguilia

Rating: 5.0

I saw a red tailed hawk,
Flying in the blue.
Effortlessly gliding, Endlessly circling.
Higher, and higher,
Fearless, courageous, masterful,
Sky pilot.
Through the rain laden clouds,
And reappearing still higher.
Majestic, magnificent, unconquerable, wild and free.
An untamed spirit,
An elemental force, one with the sky.
Epitomizing the power of nature.
Nothing but a minuscule speck, framed against,
The electric blue.
Expending no energy,
Letting his servant the wind,
Carry him to any destination, he so desires.
And suddenly, from high in the stratosphere,
He plummets.
Surely you would think,
To his death.
Like a comet from the blue.
And just when you think, your suspicions are correct,
Like a Phoenix, he rises again,
More magnificent than ever,
Sunday dinner,
Clutched tightly in his claws.

Beautiful. Reminds me of the wonder I've so oft felt hiking around Arizona/Utah. May the 'eagle' forever fly high, free and with great, unspeakable joy.
