Always In My Heart - Poem by Jenny Zak

I extend my hand into the darkness, hoping that when I pull it back yours will be entwined with mine. I close my eyes and wait...I count the seconds the minutes that pass by I pray and wait longer and longer...Doubts start to invade my mind and soul...But you've told me so many times you will always be there so I listen to my heart not my mind and wait patiently...but time still goes by I grow older weaker..My love still strong so I wait... I fall on my knees filled with despair disappointment self-pity...Tears running down my face I look at my age spotted wrinkled hand I touch my heart, feel it beating..So I smile and get up realizing that all this time I waited with my hand extended and all I had to do was reach up and touch my heart to find you there...That's where you will always remain...
