An Elegy For Lost Time Poem by Pallavi Tripathi

An Elegy For Lost Time

Rating: 5.0

There was a time
When I thought
The jitters I felt
With your voice,
Your presence
Will stay 'forever'
And I'll 'always'
Be stupid enough
To put you before me

The bruises of those
Times have kept me
Blue ever since.
Always and Forevers
Are memories written
In the ink of pain
That I might find
Words for to etch
In my skin later.

I can't waste my
Time, can't afford to,
I have no time to
Waste on temporary
Jitters that go away
With a blink of an eye
Now I tend to keep my
Focus and energy on
Permanent people
People who I'll in one
Form or the other
Keep in my life
Who won't walk away
The first chance they
Get to stomp on my
Heart, who'll find
Reasons to stay, when
The reasons are few.

I'll keep them
I'll put my energy, time,
Heart and soul
Because anything
Less would be cheating
On them. I'm lucky
They are there
In my life

The temporary things
Or the memories of them
Fades away like the
Smokes from a cigarette
They were like smokes
From a cigarette, you
Can't suck in without
Hurting yourself and
Can't stop em from fading
Away however hard you try.

Yes, I agree they beat us black and blue and all our efforts go in vain they keep repeating the same game like a chain. Excellent poem.Full*****
