An Olive Branch Poem by Paula Glynn

An Olive Branch

Friends will always be friends
Even after bitter arguments
Cooling down from a confrontation
Adult relationships complex
And - sometimes - inevitably hurtful

But real friends stick together
Friends stand at each other's side
Friends let go of their foolish pride
And forgive and move on
Differences of opinion accepted

Everyone with their own perspective
Everyone wanting to be heard
Not always over a cocktail
Harshly shaken and stirred
But over a kitchen table on Sunday morning

Friends offering an olive branch
Others to accept that loving offering
And take an uncalculated chance
Continuing to meet up for coffee
And even go clothes shopping on Saturday

There will always be disagreements
But friends will be friends
And forever offer an olive branch
Friendships resuming in hard times
And problems always sensibly talked through.
