An Ordinary Bookmark Poem by Reva Kern

An Ordinary Bookmark

An ordinary bookmark
With a drawing of
Just two small deer
Anxious to bound away
Necks outstretched in
Anticipation -

The bookmark is
Pasted on transparent film
The artistic conception
Noticeably hazy but
Still visible -

It lay on the bottom
Of my cupboard
Left behind
Years ago -
Now covered with mottled traces
Suffused with yellow -
I also remember

A frigid winter night
Gazing at it
Remembering
how it permeated
My body
with a burst of warmth
