An Unexpected Love Poem by Orlando Belo

An Unexpected Love

Rating: 5.0

If I told you that my heart was aching
would you think and wonder why?
And if I told you that you are the reason,
would you laugh and think me high?

You are looking at me with suspicion,
as though you don't believe what I say.
You should know that I would never lie,
so why should I suddenly begin today.

Your wry grin and eyes think I'm joking,
and you are waiting for a punch line.
So, what can I possibly say to convince you
that my words and intensions are sublime?

My intentions were not to fall in love with you,
I was more than happy just being your friend,
but then for no reason at all, I became smitten,
and now our friendship has come to an end.

If however, you cannot see me in a loving light,
I will be left forever in the shadows.
But if love's light can shine on the two of us
we will have a friendship and a love that glows.
