Did you ever wonder
About your very last day?
How would you spend it?
What would you say?
Would you reminisce
On things you've done?
Think of battles lost?
Battles won.
I'd like to think
Of all the good I've done.
Pray for forgiveness
From certain ones.
The roads been long.
I've traveled it well.
Went so many places.
Had stories to tell.
But, now that it's come
I feel a tear.
Cry for the loved ones
That'll miss me
When I'm not here.
My life's been filled
With great ups and downs.
I squeezed in a lot.
Have no need to frown.
I want to thank
Those special few.
The ones who loved me.
The ones who were always true.
Friends have flashed
Across my mind.
To them I give thanks
For our special times.
And so I sit
Here in my chair.
Pen in hand,
Viewing a life that was fair.
Blessed with a great wife.
Two wonderful kids.
They kept me in check
No matter what I did.
To Febo and Hoff,
Soldiers that I knew;
"Old Doc's" coming home,
I might soon be seeing you two.
So, please don't shed
A tear for me.
Laugh and talk,
But...just set me free.
I just had to return to this beautiful poem; with each reading it gets better; perhaps because I get older. So well stated my friend. May all our souls find peace.
Really an insightful philosophical reflection elegantly embellished with poetic rhyme and rhythm. A work of an intricate mind. Thanks for sharing, Lawrence.
Wow; your very best work yet, bravo. Please stay with us for awhile my friend, we need your wonderful voice, as one crying out of the desert. Peace to you...

I still love this poem! One of my all time favorites. I can’t quite explain why, but it really touches something deep inside... like a glimpse of something I know, but don’t know that I know... amazing...
