Any Good Deed Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Any Good Deed

Few volunteer,
Their time to give to others.
With nothing to expect,
From them to get.
Or await it to come.
And few to none,
Will offer their support.
To receive disrespect.
Rolling off their ungrateful tongues.

No one appreciating another.
Does this to believe,
What they do is favor.
And many today,
Perceive they should be paid.
For offering their assistance.
To then say,
"Okay.
I did that for you.
Now what is it,
Will you do for me? "

Most people today,
Want everything they should naturally do.
Receive public attention.
Recognition.
And a citation notarized.
That is presented at an event.
With it declared by their town mayor.
And everyone there,
To notice a medallion...
Around a neck they wear.

People today,
Want to be paid in some way.
For any good deed they may do for another.
And expect it to be known.
