Apartment Therapy Poem by Paula Glynn

Apartment Therapy

Creating my perfect apartment
Putting down a deep purple carpet
Painting the walls peaceful white
Storing beautiful kitchenware
A homely and cosy apartment where guests stare,

In wonder and amazement
That someone who doesn't own a house
Can live in such sophistication and luxury
That a small space can have allure and charm
As they drink their red wine and lay their arm,

On the vibrant red sofa and small coffee table
An apartment that is always able
To motivate the cleaning and tidying
Keeping home hygienic and looking good
Chores to keep a home tidy as so they should,

With colourful artwork and city prints on the wall
Stared at in admiration when friends pick up the phone and call
The telephone mostly ringing with a good cause
Family also visiting for respite during family wars
The domestic home sometimes a battlefield,

But my happy apartment is my shield
Where no weapon I need yield
When I live a decent life away from a countryside field
My apartment in a picturesque market town
My apartment a nostalgic and happy home,

My bedroom a serene relief from daily life
With a pretty pink carpet and fluffy grey rug
And a childhood bear I used to hug
And the bedbugs no longer bite for wrapping me tight
As I fall asleep and have a peaceful night,

My bathroom also a sanctuary and a place of cleansing
Where I am alone and shower without pretending
Washing away the dirt that does surely happen
And soaking in a tub of luxurious bubbles
Where in life I continue on and receive no trouble.
