Apologies Poem by Kayla Burress

Apologies

Sorry is
and always will be
nothing but a lie.
You see, the thing is,
everyone, in some warped
portion of their brain,
thinks they are right.
They think they made
the most correct decision,
walked down
the best path,
regardless of how dark and twisted
it really is.

I believe apologies are
meaningless.
I believe apologies are
not sincere.
Sorry is not just a
bandage,
it's a
blindfold.
The word blacks out our vision,
blurs up the truth.
Sorry distracts us
with pretty syllables and sounds,
but when the glitter and sparkle
falls off,
we all see the reality.

And the reality is that
apologies are artificial.
Sugary.
Sweet.
And in time,
Sticky.
Sour.
So listen, and take a little advice.
Steer clear of such blindness.
Keep away from pretty glitter.
Buffer that beautiful sound.
Because really,
sorry is
and always will be
nothing but a lie.
