The Piano Poem by Kayla Burress

The Piano

Rating: 5.0

Just you and your piano
Singing songs already written
While I sing my new-sung song,
Cold and frost-bitten.

While I laugh and dream,
You play.
While I cry,
It's still the same.

Where is your emotion?
Where are your tears?
Where is the feeling
That bonded us all these years?

I miss your undying support.
I miss your never-ending praise.
I listen for whispered words
of luck and love each day.

Yet you and your piano grow more and more attached.
And we grow more and more apart,
As if the desperate words I sing
Don't deserve your heart.

I try to tell you how I feel.
I try to tell you why I sing.
But you, you cannot hear me,
Ears filled with the piano's sweet ring.

Can't you hear the shouting?
Can't you hear the screams?
The blows come down hard on me,
Still your piano sings.

It quiets my tears so you cannot hear
My weeping and dismay.
You aren't there anymore.
You're crazy, they say.

But I need to have you with me.
But I need to hear your voice.
Instead I hear your piano laughing,
It leaves me no such choice.

Here I remain, singing my heartbreak,
Which is to you just a droning voice.
While you and your piano sing songs already written,
It seems an ending is my only choice.

A poem of human pathos and longing. Yet sing your song as you write such fine poems. You are original and unique too but only sing from your heart to an appreciative listener or listeners.. On the other side of the coin maybe the piano man feels frustrated in his heart like you. Meet on level ground and share life in a different way. It might work. Anyway the mixed emotions has produced a fine poem.Celebrate life and be happy.
