I'm not afraid of a little spider!
I just felt startled when I spied her
Descending on transparent thread
A mere three inches from my head.
I wished the space were a little wider.
That wasn't terror in my scream;
I was surprised, so it would seem,
To see those eight legs twitching there
And coming closer through the air.
Compare it to a scary dream.
I'm not the type to live in fear
Of tiny creatures crawling near;
I do not panic when I see
Arachnida approaching me.
I simply pray they'll disappear.
I ask it fervently, believing
They'll go elsewhere to do their weaving,
But, just in case, I grab a shoe.
I'm sure you know what I must do;
I'm calm, but one of us is leaving!
A refined poetic imagination, Grace. You may like to read my poem, Love And Lust. Thank you.
Clever title, and outstanding poem. The rhyme pattern of each stanza is that of a limerick, but the meter is not the same. Majority of the lines have eight syllables. A very pleasing effect. Your choice of words to keep the thing flowing and making sense is unmatched by anyone on this website. Superb!
Great little poem. I especially like the title. Thanks for it.
good Not the type to live in fear of tiny creatures crawling near; nor to panic at sight of spider, aka arachnida; Grace prayed simply, 'Disappear.' Or, what did she do? Something about a shoe.
