Around The Light Of The Red Candle Poem by Soran M. H

Around The Light Of The Red Candle

Rating: 5.0

We gathered—
all of us—
in quiet accord,
around the trembling glow
of a red candle.
Then, without warning,
a storm arose.
It swallowed the light,
scattered us like leaves,
turned love into hatred,
and drove the young
headlong toward old age.
It stole the last smiles
from the lips of workers.
And now—
instead of waiting
for the shining Eurostar
to carry us
toward a promised world
of comfort and abundance,
we stand in a queue,
shoulder to shoulder,
waiting for a food bank
to place in our hands
whatever hunger
has spared.

I liked how this poem was presented to convey a meanigful life story with an underlying message. It allows a reader to fully grasp what the Poet would love to impart. A very effective tool to arrest the reader's mind.
