On the desk,
a pen
has slept for an age.
It wakes only for meals.
Why not?
Beside it,
a glass—
in a world where nothing
trusts anything—
thirsts for a single drop of water.
While its friend,
the pitcher,
has been pierced at the bottom.
And the chair—
buried beneath dust—
has, of course,
its own reason
to be worshipped.
**
There is an ashtray
on the desk.
It has put on a mask,
presenting itself
as the most beautiful vase.
And to remain
inside that gloomy room,
it must forever submit
to the orders
of the portrait
hanging on the wall.
**
Time has stopped
inside that room
for decades.
Yet the only echo
that dares to break
the walls of silence
is a single click
upon a diplomatic briefcase—
from which leaps
a poem,
wilted,
dead,
like the cracked,
dry lips
of the glass.
**
Outside the room,
the cypress wears
its white hair
upon the earth.
Half the night has passed,
and it is still awake,
bearing witness to the dew
that once combed
the hair of the narcissus—
until the dew became a flood.
It no longer carries away
only the nests of storks;
it has become a river
flowing onward,
merging
into the ocean.
And then…
summer must place itself
beneath the merciless sun
so that its clothes may dry,
and it must not be late
for the fortieth-day mourning
of a spring
that arrived too late.

This is fantastic writing- -the poem is complex, rich in imagery, has emotional impact through word choice and imagery, and layers upon layers. This is a poem that requires reading and thinking and more rereading and thinking- -the mark of an important piece of literature. 10++++++++ and onto my fav list and you go onto my fav poet list

Behind the veil! ! Only with the truth; Behind the wall! ! ! ! Full of trouble. Thanks for sharing this poem with us.
A sad reality that will never end corruption and greed has always been the trend.
I agree with Shaun Cronick, you have penned a powerful poem with latent images. A First Class poem deserves more the the maximum 5*. Poemhunter should make this poem Poem of the Day
Each and every line of this poem tickles the mind.... so discerning.
Beautiful, beautiful poem full of metaphors and embellished with crystalline images. A striking title that can fuel the mind to read this marvelous write.
Dear poet Valsa, I want to thank you for this professional comment on my poem, really your golden speech has to be written on the wall of every dictator's palaces: (The zealots of power are steeped in corruption and the immediate victims are suffering....! But its ramifications are far reaching and will spare no one) . all the best and kind regards
Atmospheric indeed Soran. Powerful and potent images are conjured up for all readers to dwell and interpret. There's are two old adage's that spring to mind... Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. And what goes around comes around. I firmly believe in both especially the latter. 10 ++ and added to my payback favs. Thanks Soran and take care.
