At A Family Gathering Poem by Glen Kappy

At A Family Gathering

At this family gathering
my grandniece who's going on three
climbs unbidden into my lap
and settles into me.

This has happened before
and I can only guess
why she is drawn to me—
her whom I only see occasionally.

I ask you, you who've "been there"—
seen such things—
of the two of us in this chair
who to whom more comfort brings?

It is always a pleasure to see little children showing affection and drawing closer to us! It is difficult to decide who feels more comfort! Both the child and you feel equally comfortable in being close to one another! A lovely experience beautifully presented!

hey, valsa! good to see your comment, and thank you! with my granddaughter and now my grandniece i notice how appearance means little if anything to them. they respond to something other—an energy? an aura? whatever it is, it's a comfort to be on the receiving end of their trust. -glen

Lovely! It’s mutual. Just been watching a video about toddlers and ekderly caring fir each ither in a cimbined facility. It’s more natural in a family setting, of course.

yes, mutual. this was particularly touching to me, i guess, because it was unexpected. thank you, laurie, for reading and commenting.
