At Stratford-Upon-Avon. Poem by Michael Walker

At Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Rating: 5.0

The London-to-Stratford-upon- Avon
train ride rolled by in rhythm in an hour.
Stratford was where Shakespeare was born,
went to school, was a high school teacher,
and married Anne Hathaway, had children.
Shakespeare wrote and acted in his plays
in London, which had the theatres he needed;
'This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England',
I thought looking out the train window,
after the English tragedy of the Crown.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I did see this play in the Midlands town, Stratford-upon-Avon, as I was interested in Shakespeare's plays. There are twenty-five major characters, but I mentioned only those who had most influence on the plot. I wrote the poem in blank verse-ten syllables a line and little or no rhyme. 'Richard II' is written in blank verse.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Shakespeare was born in Stratford and visiting this place was special. The London-to-Stratford-upon- Avon train ride rolled by in an hour and gave many more experiences. You had seen the play and you were satisfied back on the street. An outstanding poem is deeply drafted basing on travel experience....10

Yes, it was a special visit. It took me some days to read and research 'Richard II' again. It was a challenge to keep to ten syllables a line too. You make a telling comment.
