Attempt One Poem by Selene White

Attempt One

Rating: 5.0

Attempt one was when I was far too young
To understand the loneliness,
The pain in my heart

I tied a knot in shoestring
Hung it from a doorknob
Sat there for hours and cried
Begging for the end
Begging to understand

Mom found it the next day
I lied and said it was for some game

Even now, I could never tell her
It wasn't for a game

Attempt one I was far too young
To know what I had attempted
To explain how I felt

Attempt one, I was eight
