Baby John Poem by Patricia Denise Newman

Baby John

Rating: 5.0

He was my mother's brother, the youngest of them all
there were nine other older siblings I seem to recall
His life was never easy, his mother left him when he was small
so my mum took over rearing him as she did with one and all.

Sadly this didn't last for long and when he was just eleven
we moved away to set up home, my sister just turned seven
Our prefab had just two bedrooms, no room for a small lad
so he was left behind to be brought up and lived with his dad

My mother was not happy to leave poor John this way
especially when another sister decided to come and stay
But that's the way things happened, we cannot change the past
and John grew up and married, a happy family at last

He was known to us as Baby John, fondly meant from days now past
all the siblings have now left us, John was the very last
I hope he knows he was dearly loved by all his family
and meets them all again once more in the great eternity.
