Battle's End Poem by Ayman Parray

Battle's End

Rating: 5.0

This cold has got a hold on me
Blinded by the glare of snow, I cannot see
Dark is the day
Ever darker the night
Where are the warrior and his might,
I used to be
This blood has got a hold on me
Bled by a thousand cuts, I cannot feel
Stark is the scene
Ever starker the scenery
A field of corpses lies before me,
Riddled by arrows, axes, shields, all manner of war weaponry
Those who will survive this catastrophe
Find solace in their victory
Yet there are those who will never leave this battle
We must fight on like wraiths until we prove our mettle
We fight to win the favor of the gods
We fight with the javelin, we fight with the spear
We fight to strike in the enemy's hearts fear
We fight with swords, we fight with bows
We fight with our bare knuckles and trade blows
We fight in this deserted ice-land as it snows
Blood in the snow and blood on fire
The bloody battle rages on
This battle has got a hold on us
It will never leave us
Till from this world we depart
In the hour of our valor now,
We face the end with open arms,
Valkyries come take us,
To the hall of the chosen dead
The home of the one eyed god
