Better Be politicians. Poem by Nabakishore Dash

Better Be politicians.

Politicians, before each election,
behave as if they are servants
of the people,
promise to bring the moon from the sky, golden days for all,
make the nation the best of all,
and what not.
Once oath taking is over,
they become very powerful,
their lives suddenly take u turn
to be masters,
forget their vows during electioneering,
ordinary voters shall have
to cross many security barriers
to reach their sitting spot
for even a brief chat.

Majority amass massive wealth,
very tough to be caught by law net,
avail all benefits of the state,
free of any cost,
their whim and fantasies
manage the affairs of the state,
can order for war, truce, agreement
between nations,
are generally old
guarded by strong security envelope,
send the army for fighting,
young soldiers fight against
each other,
without acquaintance and hatred,
sacrifice their valuable lives
in very unimaginable,
miserable sphere.
Their young wives widowed,
children become fatherless,
dreams totally shattered,
future darkened and uncertain,
families spend entire life
in unspeakable despair.

They hardly care for any
moral and financial catastrophe
the citizens suffer,
remain well protected
under toughest security cover,
grant some concession
for the martyrs from state exchequer,
and in case of victory
their names are written
in the annals of History
in golden letters,
victory is exaggerated for the
subsequent election to
again usurp position and power.

What a great profession
that requires no qualification,
no retirement,
all powers vested to heckle
any officer.
They are ever ready
to sacrifice the lives of others,
never their own nor their relatives,
for the sake of nation,
shake hands with the same
opponents after some duration,
they call their services sacred
and surprising for ever,
becoming a politician is
far better than any other.
