Beyond The Skin Poem by Katherine Perry

Beyond The Skin

Rating: 5.0

Red, yellow, black and white
Aren't we beyond the color of our skin
What about the importance of who's wrong
and who's right
Shouldn't that be the thing to defend

How could such shallow thoughts
Be made so important
And come from such an intelligent mind
All thought up with plenty of reasons of no
importance
Then wind up being just a waste of time

It is sad that we took a part
Of what everyone has the same
Dissect it, and then pull it apart
Trying to find a color above the others
that remain

And with that old saying'beauty is only skin
deep'
Says alot of what our skin is worth
Nothing more than a shell
Or a shoe that covers our feet
Just to keep off the dirt

Does the color of our skin play a part of
whats important in life
Or does the seperation come from the influences
around us
Using our skin color to bring forth reasons to
fight
But if we became blind
It would be laid to rest and put behind us!
