So bright and so shining;
Once were those eyes
Seemed within Sun rising
And heaven ever resting
Now blank they stare
Starless they glow and glimmer
Kindle with demoniac glare
His trousers were baggy
Hands not clean
Face with unshaved chin
With unkempt looks, he appears
Seen everyday wandering
Down the street onto the corner
Cold and dejected, passing
Through many a place near and dear
Though to him blank and bare..
Into emptiness and nothingness
Pulling his body and soul together
Joy, sorrow, staleness and liveliness
All seem same, no discrimination ever
Rain and storm beat him
Sun and Moon light him
No sense of feeling either
Only emptiness and blankness
Could be seen writ large in his eyes
And God knows where his soul lies
Perchance this is madness
Slowly and steadily swallowing him
And through his eye corners
I could see sun blazes embers
Even if you are insane
You are human, my dear
Says the sun humbly in his ear…………
The poet turns aside from his own concerns to sympathize with the hopeless man. The poet's peripheral vision of hope sees the available source of light that the hopeless man does not see.
