Booby Trap

Poem by Amitava Sur

Booby trap

Life is like a booby trapped parcel
A concealed explosive! !

Apparently looks very harmless
But designed to detonate.

Nothing can be guessed when you look at it
But you my friends- you have it, once you entered in it.

Life is like a heroine on stage
Putting a mask of a smiling dame

Decorated with colors and spices
Being so much alluring.

It looks very rosy from periphery
But stings when you are in.

It traps you and puts in a cage
And then rolls on miseries and pains

Continues It's spitefulness
With few pleasures in between.

As if feeding some lollipops
To cool down a crying child.

And stupid humans, being mesmerized
All are running behind it! !

We all talk about optimism, pessimism
And so many other things.

But jolly well, we all know
That we are trapped and caged in.

And alas! we reach the end at last
Leaving many things unfulfilled! !

Life is like a booby trapped parcel
A concealed explosive! !

Like the glamorous actress who may in reality be a state of turmoil we also see a comedian or a clown who makes everybody laugh but no one sees the inner feelings. Turmoil may be hidden as in volcano ready to erupt any time. Beautiful poem providing a timely warning. Thank you.(Report)Reply

What a beautiful way to explain life! Life wrapped in a beautiful parcel.
Yet knowingly we have to move on with concealed explosive! !
We trapped and helpless...We can count our fulfilled wishes. Unfulfilled wishes are many.
One fact of life is very few are happy, as nothing is steady. A moment you are happy, next moment you are crashed. I loved reading it. Thanks for sharing with us.(Report)Reply

You have employed a powerful imagery here.... a booby trap that may detonate any time we least expect and burn us! Yes, some unprecedented misfortunes in life make us to believe like that! I can understand why you feel so! But we cannot live in fear all the time. Let us adopt an attitude 'Come what may'! A 10 for this powerful write!(Report)Reply

Amitava, I thoroughly enjoyed your imagery of life, you have put it in an unusual perspective indeed,
which makes it all the more enticing. Alas, when we do leave this life behind, we also leave it unfulfilled,
our purposes undefined and never realized, it is true. Life is a trap that we are borne into without being
given a choice whether we even want to be here or not. We make the best of it through misery and pain
to attain what we think we want from it. In the end it is like a booby trap that tends to explode without our
knowing it was a concealed explosive. Thank you Amitava, RoseAnn(Report)Reply
