Bored while they respectfully are crushed,
two women look at Degas' paintings, lost in
admiration, feeling nothing. Boston
their museum home where they've been hushed.
There is an absence of sensation in
the way they're touched––or are they? ––by the art,
like women who read what I write. 'How smart! '
they say, but can't reach where the words begin.
Inspired by “Visit to a Museum, ” by Edgar Degas (1879-80) , which I saw today at the Boston Museum of Fine Art. Boston told Walter Sickert that he wanted to give the idea of the “respectfully crushed and impressed absence of sensation that women feel in front of paintings”.

Lost in admiration, feeling nothing! What a comment on our society, and not just women viewing the arts. Fine poem gershon. Your work always leaves me with more questions than answers. Thanks for making me think.
