Bravery Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Bravery

Rating: 5.0

An attempt on his life,
but Gandhiji continues his speech
painfully pacifies the assembly.
Lady Edwina Mountbatten
and several others
come to see him, call him brave.

Gandhiji said to them, ‘there's no bravery in this;
when someone comes to kill me
and I bear his assault cheerfully
reciting Ramnaam, that's bravery.'

Note: Just ten days later, what happened was exactly this. Gandhiji was shot at in the prayer meeting. His feeble body collapsed chanting "Hey Ram, Hey Ram".
