Brilliant Are Those Self Anointed Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Brilliant Are Those Self Anointed

Who was it,
Among those self anointed...
To declare themselves,
Brilliant and all knowing.
And convincing enough,
To have others believe...
A structure built upon image,
Could be made to appear much stronger.
Than ever before.
If the foundation of it,
Was swiftly chipped away.
Of that which supports,
The image given.

And...
By just a few assuming,
That image upheld and supported...
Upon a foundation,
Kept unseen from public view.
Will remain to stay praised.
While its foundation has been given,
Permission...
To have it chipped away.
With their consent and approval.

Who...
With this brilliant decision,
To have been allowed to make...
From a competence to fake it.
Based upon impulse, envy and jealousy.
Impressively addressing pretensions.
As this image to witness,
Begins to crumble.
And then becomes one's objective,
To have believed...
The blame to place it is on others!

What is it,
That is in the water...
These folks are drinking.
To boast and toast themselves,
As achievers of victory?
And that successful victory to achieve,
Is where to benefit what, who or whom?
It certainly 'ain't the people.
Witnessing their beliefs,
And quality of life fade.
Becoming quickly diminished.
