I remember when I was a boy
Times of fun and great joy
There was always something nice to eat
Fresh fruit and vegetables with plenty of meat
The food was good with lots of taste
Not like now, what a waste
We didn’t have a fridge, or even a TV
We played in the sand and swam in the sea.
Children playing in the street
Some didn’t even have shoes on there feet.
But life was good many years ago
No one rushing to and fro
The golly on the jar of Robertson’s jam
Didn’t need fancy names like an ethnic man
Children’s stories were all about fun
None of this nonsense or political humdrum
Milk was given in schools to drink
To make bones strong, healthy not weak
Doors were left open all through the day
Some even open when you went away
Allotments to work in, parks to play
Not much of that left here to day
Bring back the old days this I say
When we worked for a fair days pay
The food we ate was fresh and healthy
There wasn’t a lot, but tummies weren’t empty
Fresh food would last for up to a week
Now its shelf life that we seek
Five a day the government say
Will keep us fit, but how which way?
All those chemicals that we now eat
Milk, fruit and vegetables even the meat
They went to war over chemicals overseas
Many have died just to please
The governments of today, were they right
To get involved in another fight
Many years later what have they achieved
So many hurt and thousands bereaved
Old and infirm, children, woman and men
So many lives lost through the stroke of a pen.
So is it right in what they say
The pen is mightier than the sword anyway
Is now the time to call a halt
To the way life’s going without blames or fault
Put pen to paper and have your say
Let’s live healthy and take the chemicals away
Bring back the old days again I say
And let us live for another day…
not words to explain this one because it speaks for itself! ! ! Outstanding write
