Broken Heart
(a poem by Shakil Ahmed)
Her words are like sharp splinters
Often poke my tender heart
And tiny drops of congealed blood
Flow profusely from a place
Where i planted her image innocently
On a turbulent wintry night.
Now my shrunken heart sobs
Like orphan of tyrants land
Heart rending delayed and long sighs
Of my broken and betrayed heart
Often collapse the veins and arteries
Of seafaring birds
None will see the patches of my heart
No one will know who has stuck
These ominous patches
In a wintry December night
Evening breeze is a lone witness
How we walked hand in hand
Stamping thorny bushes
Her loved lit look
Often dazzled and darkened my eye
I still remember, how we played
Hide and sick in the twilight
Of lovely autumn
We were the joyous traveller
Of a stony road.
Now she halved this road
Into two unfamiliar lanes
I can understand
I am growing old
And i am alone
To swim in the turbulent waves
Of perilous and fathomless ocean.

'We were the joyous traveller Of a stony road. Now she halved this road Into two unfamiliar lanes'..is beautiful. There is much pain dripping from lines. Very well crafted. Touches the heart. Thanks for sharing.
