Cactus Girl Mambo (Ode To Langston Hughes) Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Cactus Girl Mambo (Ode To Langston Hughes)

The lights grew purple, then blueish green
The bass mellowed off into the rain of her voice
The black keys blended well with the ivory keys
A harmonious union of the silk grey dress that painted her body
Her voice purred towards the open door just before it closed
The wrinkles around her nose relived the bit of tension felt deep in her bones
Her hips began to sway
Softly
side to side
Fear began to leave her body
Slowly
Softly
Just as the breeze before its welcomed to the clouds
Her voice left the pianos essence
It sounded best without it
One word after another invoked the angels in heaven to sway
Sway to the sound that soothed their feathers
She smiles her secret smile
One kept from watchers view
Her melody was hers and hers alone as she persuaded the night to stay a bit longer
Her eyes closed just as the angels began to open theirs
