Cactus Wren Poem by Juan Olivarez

Cactus Wren

There's a little cactus wren,
Getting a drink.
From the old Metate,
In the back.
When I water my plants,
Water collects in it.
The cactus wren,
Is so small,
Almost as small,
As a hummingbird.
He's flitting about now,
Up in the oak,
Safe from the cats,
That dwell on the ground.
