Captive Bird Poem by ShellyBean Stanowski

Captive Bird

Rating: 5.0

Oh captive bird that I am
you have clipped my wings
words of despair behind bars
are the only songs that I sing

How I long to fly free again
exploring the fervent wind
Yet here I sit entangled
beneath your vines I'm pinned

Where are the sweet smells
of the fields that I use to cherish
You are my prison guard
who has left me here to perish

My woodlands are a memory
like a distant calling dream
No longer can I sing of love
only a strained silent scream

I've paid for my freedom
Oh Jailer, have pity on me
You can keep me caged forever
but my heart will always be free

Thoughts will be free.....yeah, I've heard that before, but a lovely poem to get accross the freedom of heart and mind! Preets
