Checks And Balances Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Checks And Balances

Regardless who disputes,
Who sits in postions...
To be voted and picked as leaders,
In these 'United States Of America'.
There is a Constitution.
Documented to protect,
All of the citizens.
Black, White, Brown or Sun bright yellow.
Are entitled to be accepted and respected.

And those who have been deceived to believe,
Their contributions made...
Gives them reason to perceive,
Themselves to have others kept beneath them...
As less than human beings.
Guess what?
Your minds have been messed up.
By an interpretation,
That has allowed the quality of life...
To distort it and corrupt.

The United States Of America,
Is governed by rules, laws...
Checks and balances.
And those among,
The elite, status grabbers and pretensions.
Flaunted to taunt and haunt,
Truth as is to impress and imitate...
What isn't to be clear.
Can take their sticks, torches and rocks,
Back to caves.
To call themselves heros who are brave.
But those who are truly brave,
Are the ones saving...
A unique way of life,
To more love than dislike.
Than those protesting...
Who it is that sits in leadership positions.
Because they happen to be non-white.

How ridiculous,
Can this childish mindset get?
In a society clearly diversified.
And...
A democratic 'republic'.
Not yet perfect.
But moving towards justice for all.
Not a few giving image to symbolize.
But moving towards justice for all!
Realized!

Now...
How many of us Americans,
Are in need to get over...
Our pretentious selves!
