The sun, unseen in three days,
smiled through an opening of the clouds
just as I drove by a pasture.
When I pulled over,
intent upon writing the light of inspiration I had seen,
a cloud of gray filled the gap,
and rain began to fall,
washing away my words.
Looking through a wet windshield
I saw a lone cow
standing there, in the center of the field,
she was not there a moment ago.
But, there she stood, staring at me,
chewing cud.
The motions of her mouth
looking for all the world
as if she were laughing.
