Dragonfly Moment
Today on the trail
the temperature high
the humidity heavy
like a beast of burden-
The air and sun engaged a wager
that I would not endure.
While the sun scolded my spirit and
the wind withered my will
I onward rode-
Moving along in this self-imposed torture,
nearly 'tossing in the towel',
I saw dragonflies...
Dragonflies.
They seemed so nonchalant,
peaceful, still, content,
basking in the harsh heat
and burning rays of intense illumination.
They had no sunglasses
(that I could see) ,
no sweat on brow
(that I could tell) ,
they were so unperturbed
in their singular purpose of enjoyment,
of being in only this very moment,
one in which they completely live, undaunted.
Here, now, is where they reside, and
they love it-
Renewed in spirit and will
I pushed onward,
even enjoying the moment,
the heat and humidity,
the challenge to survive.
Looking back at my inspiration
(the dragonflies)
I smile, knowing they tipped the scale,
stacked the deck in my favor.
The elements lost the bet.
My heart endured, even flew.
Like the dragonflies,
I was completely in the moment, and
I loved it!

One of the oldest surviving inhabitants of earth, dragon flies endure extreme conditions easily. This idea is concealed most subtly in the poem, to corroborate the positive energy that exudes the poem.

I fell in love with this poem, Smoky. Thank God we are blessed by such moments that give us the encouragement to ride on... a thousand stars on this and I also faved it so I would reread and reread
