Every time, that last year of life,
when I would go visit her in the nursing home
where she spent her days dreaming inside of those
walls that weren't her own,
she would gleefully tell me
how happy she was to see me and how much she loved me,
then, always, she would ask,
'Are you here to take me home today? '
Though my heart longed so to do just that,
I could only smile, responding gently, 'Not today Mom.'
- Late in the fall she was granted her deepest wish,
when Jesus stopped by for a visit.
I'm certain she asked Him
what she always asked me.
The difference being that, by grace,
He was able to respond, 'Yes, of course.
Take my hand, let's go home together.'
- Lately, I find myself asking now and then,
'Can I come home too? '...
I will wait, listening for a very gracious answer.
- I will see you again Mom,
when it's my turn to be taken home.
I love you, always.
(part 2) My own mother passed away more than 61 years ago, and I know that I will see her again.

Hey, Smoky! Not spending much time in PH these days, I'm just reading this. It's warm and lovely and makes me think of my dad's passing. May grace keep us, love guide us—always. -Glen
(3) My wife has lost three sisters and a brother-in-law in just over a year and a half, so we never know just how much time we have. Three of those four left very suddenly and unexpectedly.

Smoky, this is beautiful. I have given it five stars and added it to my favorite poem list. (This is part one of my comment, the second try because apparently my original comment was more than 300 characters.)
