Childhood Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Childhood

Heart innocent, joyful and playful, making memories,
Taking first baby steps and learning to talk
Lots of cuddles and kisses with parents protecting love.
Toilet-trained and breastfed, taken out in a pram
First day at nursery school fearful without mum
Making new friends and taught to read and write
Excitement of birthday parties and believing in Santa
With sixpence under pillow from the tooth fairy.
Enjoying swings, slides and roundabouts in the park
Thrill of summer picnics, seaside trips, adventures
Christmases sublime with presents and festive treats,
Family seated at dinner table lots of smiles and laughter
Granddad kissing giggling grandma under mistletoe.
Exploring with childhood friends, climbing trees, cycling,
Football, cricket, fishing, and swimming in rivers.
