A century ago today war was put on pause
A trenched no man's land, a place of death
Became for a day a place of peace
How civilized a way for war's breath
Today in war a holiday comes
And Death has no cause to rest
His work throughout the day continues
Which war do you think was best
Sadly, Man's inhumanity to man continues. This was but a brief respite between those who wished that it would stop. A nice reminder of that day.

great rhyming, and fascinating story. of course i KNOW there is at least ONE person in New York City who would notice you, , , , , , , , , , , at least if i were there when you were! ! ! ! ! NICE! [or did you mean Penn Yan, New York (my sister's 'summer home'!) ? ? bri :) love the poet's note. all wars stink, though some stink more than others (maybe) . makes me think of the Bob Hope X-mas shows for U.S. military personnel in some of the 'safer' places in Viet Nam during that conflict. : ( to war. :) to the poet and to Bob Hope (and the other entertainers, esp. the girls! ! !) no, i was not in attendance, as i was serving in a civilian hospital in U.S. instead of going into military. but 3 brothers were in military, one in “the Nam”. bri :)
