Great Lionel was a lion tamer, intrepid, bold and proud
Star of the circus, daredevil hero of the sawdust ring
Bravery second to none never knowing fear.
Introduced by ringmaster he stepped into the ring
Wearing red satin tights, purple vest, and black boots.
Cracking whip with pistol on hip, haughty and impressive
Fearlessly enters the lions cage with a contemptuous grin.
Confronting three elderly lions and a sullen lioness.
Audience cheer, Great Lionel bows and waves,
Cracks whip with three lions leaping onto barrels
Quiet, and ready to perform following his commands.
But the lioness refuses, hungry wanting her dinner
She ate Great Lionel leaving whip and black leather boots.
